Running a small business provides opportunities and challenges. Kristy's business is in the building industry providing architectural plans for builders and clients. As a business they maximise the space of existing housing stock and add insulation so their clients need less energy to heat their homes. There have been significant challenges during the pandemic, including increased costs, in particular building materials.
Furlough payments were provided by the Prime Minister and Government to support small businesses. Recently a woman from Hurstpierpoint spoke to Kristy about her business, as a trader she said the furlough payments provided a lifeline during the pandemic.
John Baldwin from Santander UK said βItβs clear businesses of all sizes are facing into a tough winter. However, our conversations with SMEs find them increasingly resilient and resourceful. Many have already adapted their business models, enhanced their products, explored and exploited new markets, developed new skills and reviewed their costs and pricing to counter the spiralling cost of supplies, energy and labour.β
Small business is the life blood of our economy here in Mid Sussex. Kristy will be visiting Mid Sussex businesses to connect with leaders, support companies and promote shopping locally. Kristy recently met with Levelling Up Minister Jacob Young MP to ask for funds for Burgess Hill town centre.
As a former apprentice and manager for Marks & Spencer PLC, and as a store manager for Jaeger PLC, Kristy was trained in leadership and how to achieve results. If elected, she will use her business skills in parliament to ensure a strong and effective voice for Mid Sussex.
