The last couple of months have seen plenty of elections and a referendum, but Franklands Ward residents have another chance to have your say!
A Council by-election will be held on Thursday 28th July to elect a Councillor to fill a vacancy on Haywards Heath Town Council. This by-election is about ensuring we elect an effective Councillor who will work to represent us locally and be a strong voice at the Town Hall.
I am Jed Dwight, and I’m delighted to have been chosen by the local Conservatives to stand in this by-election. I live in the ward and, before making Haywards Heath my home, have had past experience serving as a Parish Councillor. My working life is spent supporting a Sussex MP, helping solve issues on their constituents’ behalf. I am also a poultry judge in my spare time. I believe I can bring both experience of serving the community and a fresh input to the Town Council.
If elected as your new Town Councillor, I will work with the Conservative team to:
- Ensure new development comes with new facilities and improvements in infrastructure to benefit the community - such as the new country park, allotments, cemetery and land set aside for a new primary school in Hurstwood Lane, already secured by Franklands Councillors
- Support local planning, through the Neighbourhood Plan, which every resident will be able to have their say on through the referendum later this year, and champion the need for more affordable homes for young people, including Starter Homes
- Encourage new investment in Haywards Heath - the station redevelopment brings huge benefits, but there’s much more to do
- Work with Franklands Ward’s Councillors to continue to tackle the speeding, parking and safety problems that are of most concern to residents
- Support the continuation of sixth form college provision in Haywards Heath, following Central Sussex College’s decision to close in 2017
Conservatives have a great track record running our Councils - investing in local facilities, improving infrastructure, delivering high qualitypublic services and being a strong voice for the community. With your support in this by-election, we can continue this success for our town.
